"Do As I Have Done for You"
Jesus’ words in John 13, “Do as I have done for you,” call every believer to follow His example of humble service. During the Last Supper, Jesus took the position of a servant and washed His disciples’ dirty feet—even the feet of the man who would betray Him. Through this “disgustingly beautiful” act, Jesus showed that true greatness is not found in authority or control, but in willingly placing ourselves beneath others to meet their needs.
Serving can be messy, inconvenient, time-consuming, and costly, but God has given every Christian gifts to use for His glory and the good of others. Opportunities to serve are all around us—in the church, in our homes, and throughout the community. Jesus promises that when we put His teaching into practice, we will be blessed. As we use our hands, abilities, time, and resources to help others, we become more like Christ and discover that serving others also changes and blesses our own hearts.
